When you choose your photographer try to find someone who matches your personal style. From Classic-contemporary to Documentary and dramatic, I have listed 5 main photography styles below. A good photographer has his own style - but then again, don't forget that you might want to have photos for a more diverse audience:
- Portrait & Family potraits for your parents and grand parents
- Photos for your friends on social media
- Photographs for your wedding album for you and generations to enjoy
- Photo prints to hang on your walls at home
Here are 5 main styles to look out for:
Amongst all those different styles you want to find you own, that suits your personality. When it comes to weddings, trends changes every year even if ever so slightly. To keep it contemporary might be the best bet, while personally I would recommend to keep true to your self rather than going the safe route. When it comes to black and white a photographer should be able to give you a version of both, colour and black and white. I would recommend colour for your album and black and white for that lovely canvas print to hang up on your wall at home.

My life is mainly filled with photography and - Art. When I paint I always try to avoid to create a painting with the protagonist in the middle. I prefer a more subtle approach. A painting just as a photo has two main purposes: to tell a story & to create an emotion. The contemporary style has focused on the couple a mainly. A little bit like photography in a studio with a white backdrop - it could be anywhere really. So chose photography that included the environment, landscape, venue, friends & family.
A bit of banter - photography that doesn't use a script but captures moments in a relaxed way. The photographer will look for those moments but might also set them in place. Photographers have a natural talent to relax their couples and make them feel as if they weren't "spied on".
It's all about spontaneity - documentary style photography really is about capturing that one moment - purely natural. A great opportunity for the photographer to surprise the couple with a fantastic - and fun - collection of photos that reflect the atmosphere of fabulous wedding celebrations.
A source of indirect and natural light can create or support a very dramatic scene. Flash as it would make a scene rather artificial. In the above image the light is purely natural which gives the photo a dramatic look. The atmosphere is vibrant and positive.
